Coaching Moment: So You Fell Off the Habit-Building Wagon

I wanted to share with you all (5) tips to getting back in the driver's seat of your health and fitness journey. These (5) tips come from our Nutrition Mentorship program, Healthy Steps Nutrition. I wanted to share them with you all.

1) Change your mindset from "Starting Over" to hitting "Resume".

Maybe you ate out more last month, had a few too many happy hours after work, one too many treats and didn't get 8 hours of sleep every night. Resuming your heathy habits today mean you can say you are back on track.

2) Determine why your attempts have failed.

Your struggle to get to bed on time might be less about willpower and more about that 3pm cup coffee. Identify the root of why your habit attempt went bust, and your solutions are more likely to be helpful.

3) Make the healthy choice the easy choice.

Adjust your daily goal to something more manageable. You're not "lowering" the bar - you're setting smarter, attainable targets so you can stay motivated and on track.

4) Value action over perfection.

It's easy to get discouraged. Progress is not a straight line. One thing you can do is to keep track of your wins and creating a wins list.

5) Give yourself more grace.

You didn't fail because you're a failure. Your attempt failed because you're still figuring out the right strategy. Setbacks are a part of any process. The fact that you're working toward improvement is something to be proud of!

Respectfully,

Josh Melendez
