Have you ever achieved what you wanted to achieve and felt like you didn’t deserve it? Have you ever thought to yourself, there is no way I would ever handle that success level? Have you ever stayed away from your goal because you felt like you wouldn’t be ready for it once you’ve obtained it?
Fear of succeeding in life is real! It is such a crazy thought to process. How can I be scared of achieving my goal? How can I stray away from the exact thing I want to accomplish? Here are three things I learned about fearing success, from my personal experience: I got use to failure, I wasn’t prepared for it and I felt selfish because I was going to have to make myself a priority.
Failing at something and learning and acting on it is good because you advance in life. But if you fail and do nothing about it and then continue to fail and do nothing about it, it becomes a mindset. Even worse, it becomes your lifestyle. Once you have deemed failing as your “life”, any success that may come your way can be viewed as a “to good to be true” thought. It becomes a thought of “hell has to be cold for this to have occurred for me” mindset. This all leads to us fearing failure because we have grown accustomed to feeling sorry for ourselves, constantly complaining about our situation and use to walking around with our head hanging. It’s so bad that we do something EXPECTING to fail at it and then what’s even worse, when we do fail at it, we accept it. Never allow failure to define you!
I absolutely love the quote, “failing to prepare is preparing to fail”. There is so much truth to that quote. If you do not prepare yourself in anything that you do, the odds of failing are very high. You have to prepare yourself for success. The first way of preparing yourself for success is by changing your mindset. Your mind controls everything you do. If you do not have a plan for your success then of course you will be fearful of it once it occurs. You will be fearful of it because you will think that it will slip through your hands once you finally touch it. You will be fearful of it because you will think you’re going to have to go through the same battles all over again if you mess it up. You won’t lose it or mess it up if you have a plan to withhold it.
When it comes to success, making yourself a priority is a priority. You have to think of yourself way more than before. We are use to giving our time, effort and money to our family or friends. We justify it because those are the people we care about. But what about yourself? There is no one more precious in this world than yourself! Tell yourself that every morning, every afternoon and every night. You have to think of yourself more than you do. Succeeding in life requires that. You’re going to have to sacrifice some time, effort and money away from your friends and family. They will not like it because they are use to it and that scares us. We don’t want to be ridiculed or be viewed as selfish by the people we love. But it’s not being selfish, it’s being fair to yourself. You have to devote more time, effort and money on you to succeed in your goals because no one else will.
Fearing success is something that is not talked about a lot but it exist. But I can tell you in all honesty, it feels so great breaking from those chains. It is very special seeing my vision come to life and I hope all of your visions do as well!
