Have you ever left the gym feeling like you still have a little bit left in the tank? Have you ever left the gym without creating a sweat angel on the ground? Have you ever left the gym without requiring more than 5 minutes to recover from your workout? Have you ever left the gym without feeling like you just got hit by a bus?
If you have, here’s the truth: that’s good!
You should want to feel like this 4 out the 5 times you come to the gym or 2 out of the 3 times. Better yet, every single time. Leaving the gym and feeling like you just got hit by a bus should not be a feeling we are seeking. You should want to feel like you can function immediately after your workout.
Why? Because life requires it. Once you’re done with your workouts you are required to drive or bike or walk home. Some are going home to their kids. Some are going home to do some more work. Some are going home to cook dinner. In order to be able to do all of this, we need to feel fine to do it. Remember this quote: “Your workout is supposed to build you not bury you” - Chris Spealler
If you walk out feeling absolutely crushed then your Central Nervous System (CNS) is absolutely crushed. And your CNS controls everything about you. That controls how you function and if you fry it enough, eventually it won’t work the way it’s supposed to.
I’ve been very honest to everyone that I want you all still kicking ass in your 90’s. In order to do that, we need to be proud of pacing, recovering, nutrition, mechanics, and moving pain-free.
I made a post the other day that said, “It makes no sense if you do functional fitness if you’re not able to function in life”. I believe in that 100%, and as your coach, I have to be honest with you.
Don’t seek to be crushed, seek to be able to function.
Respectfully,
Josh Melendez
