The Power of Saying "I Need Help"

Asking for help is one of the most powerful things you can do for your personal growth and success. Yet, for many of us, saying "I need help" can feel incredibly difficult. We may worry about looking weak, not being good enough, or burdening others with our struggles. But the truth is, asking for help is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of strength. It shows that you are invested in your progress and willing to take the necessary steps to improve.

At CrossFit Be Someone, we are here to help. We want to help. But in order for us to do so, we need to know what you need. Without that insight, it can be challenging for your coaches to give you the best guidance. Whether you need help with mastering a movement, understanding your nutrition, or finding the motivation to stay consistent, we are here to support you.

Why Is It Hard to Ask for Help?

If asking for help is so beneficial, why do so many people struggle with it? Here are a few common reasons:

  1. Fear of Looking Weak – Many people equate asking for help with admitting failure. In reality, seeking help is a sign of self-awareness and a desire to grow.
  2. Wanting to Be Independent – Some people take pride in figuring things out on their own. While independence is valuable, it should not come at the cost of progress.
  3. Fear of Judgment – People may worry that others will judge them for not knowing how to do something. At CrossFit Be Someone, we foster a supportive environment where no question is too small or insignificant.
  4. Not Knowing What to Ask – Sometimes, people know they are struggling but cannot pinpoint exactly what they need help with. That is okay! Our coaches can help you identify the areas that need improvement.
  5. Past Experiences – If someone has asked for help before and received a negative response, they might hesitate to ask again. This is why it’s crucial to be part of a community that encourages and uplifts each other.

How Can You Ask for Help?

Now that we understand why asking for help can be challenging, how can you take that step? Here are some simple ways to reach out:

  1. Talk to Your Coach Before or After Class – If you are struggling with a movement or unsure about a workout, pull your coach aside and ask for guidance.
  2. Send a Message – If you feel more comfortable reaching out privately, send your coach a message explaining what you need help with.
  3. Be Specific (If You Can) – If you know exactly what you need help with, be as specific as possible. For example, instead of saying, "I struggle with lifting," you can say, "I have trouble keeping my back straight during deadlifts. Can you check my form?"
  4. Ask for a Private Session – Sometimes, you may need more one-on-one attention. Personal training sessions are a great way to get customized help.
  5. Lean on Your Community – CrossFit is built on community. Talk to fellow athletes who may have gone through the same struggles. They can provide insights and encouragement.
